Is Mass Transit Eco-Friendly?

As part of my regular podcast routine, I got to the Freakonomics podcast and it was on one of my favorite topics: mass transit/public transportation. I’ve always thought intuitively that mass transit/public transportation is better for the environment. I never really thought about it aside from a cost standpoint (where the DC area subway system […]

On the Road Again

So I missed my transfer at metro center today, and while waiting on the platform and backtracking, I thought of a little metro song. I don’t know why, but Willie Nelson’s On the Road Again popped into my head. for those of you who don’t know it, here it is for your listening pleasure: but […]

Not Allowed

No Storm Troopers allowed at the center door. I like these stickers, kind of want some to put on more doors.

DC Shake Up

As you may have heard, we had an earthquake occur yesterday afternoon. The epicenter was in Mineral, VA, and reached a magnitude of 5.8. Most people were at work were running out the door, but it turns out that wasn’t the best idea according to FEMA. I ended up half-crouching under my desk as I […]

Unsettling WMATA Metro Numbers

Understandably, large companies don’t want their skeletons in the closet revealed to the world. however in the case of the WMATA, their skeletons seem to be bursting at the seams, culminating with the 2009 red line crash that killed 8 passengers and 1 driver. Although it has been two years since the incident, WMATA doesn’t […]

Metro Fare – How Does it Compare?

It is no surprise that Metro is still in the red. Funding is still a huge problem and it doesn’t look like we subway commuters are going to get any reprieve anytime this year. It seems after reading commentary after commentary on the upcoming WMATA fare hikes, that they all revolve around Metro not having […]

Taipei Subway

On a recent trip to Taiwan, I was introduced to the Taipei MRT subway system. My “home” station was the Jiantan station, located across the street from the famous Shilin Night Market. This station was shaped like a boat, and as I would learn later, all the outdoor stations all had unique designs.

Alert DC – No More, No Less

When the notification doesn’t affect me, I find the emails from Alert DC kind of amusing. They are so simple and direct, to the point where it may not actually be useful information. for instance. this morning I received the following email: Police activity in the Pentagon Metro Station. The station is closed at this […]
