**** LATE UPDATE ****
got to meet the Todd in NYC last july!
From Boston, MA, Todd English‘s Olives restaurants are described as “rustic Mediterranean” with locations in Massachusetts, Las Vegas, NYC, as well as here in DC.
The two things I kept reading about the Vegas Olives was (1) get the beef carpaccio and (2) get a seat on the patio or near the windows so you can see the Bellagio fountain show.
Thankfully the group I ate with got a large table with an unobstructed view of the Bellago fountains, and yes. I got the carpaccio. The yelp posts didn’t do it justice. Normally when I get carpaccio, I expect somewhere between 8-12 slices of the raw/rare beef topped with arugula and some dressing. This carpaccio came out HUGE, with closer to 20-25 pieces, a giant bunch of arugula, a cheese-bread mini-loaf, parmesan cheese, and a nice surprise of pickled cipollini (sp?) onions.
The beef carpaccio is definitely something to share. It is delicious, if you love beef carpaccio. If you are unsure/never tried it before, don’t get it here because you’ll end up with more than you can handle.
For my entree I got the veal osso bucco, which was delicious, too. The noodles it was served with appeared to be hand-made, which was a nice touch. The cream sauce was very rich, but didn’t take away from the meaty goodness. The other diners who got the snapper and the sea bass appeared to be very happy with their choices too.
If you don’t have an Olives near you, definitely go to the one in Vegas. If you get an earlier dinner reservation, you have a better chance of eating on the patio or at least a sweet window seat to see the fountain shows every 15 minutes! enjoy!
