You know how they say scent is a really powerful thing to help you remember your memories? For me, I think I also associate music with people as well – when I hear certain songs, I find myself being reminded of friends and people I know. Do you do that? Hear a song and instantly think of someone you know? Hopefully I’m not the only one, but here are some of the ones that came up:

My best friend absolutely loved (loves) this song, and he got his driver’s license long before I did. Whenever we would get in the car, this song would inevitably come up and we would both be singing/rapping along with Jay-Z.It was definitely one of the most carefree times of my life.

you know that crush you’ve had that you never had the courage to ask out? this song reminds me of that crush. I like the nice imagery and (PG) fantasy of being with that person.

This reminds me of an old middle school friend who made the treacherous lunchroom a lot better. he was a really important part to make middle school tolerable. I don’t know if he knows it, but I’m pretty sure middle school would have been miserable if he didn’t invite me to sit with him and his friends. lame, I know, but still a nice memory.

My old a capella group used to do this song, but we never got to it while I was a part of it. It is still one of my favorites and I think fondly of those years and the friends I made outside of my regular classes.

I think of my favorite snowboarding friend when I hear this song. he showed me an awesome snowboarding video that used this song and a light painting technique. I think of all the fun snowboarding trips we took and reminiscing of the fun times we have had watching funny movies, making fun of ourselves, or taking some crusty rips!

My cousin loves Erasure, and it makes me smile that someone could love this song so much.

My other cousin introduced me to the U2 Joshua Tree album and this song. definitely one of the formative moments of my music tastes.

My cousin’s wedding in Cape Cod was a great time, and they played this song during a slideshow. When I hear this song I think of my cousin and her husband and making new friends who turn out to be kind of awesome. It was also a vacation I took with my mom and was able to show her around Cape Cod as I’ve been there before with friends.

My friend who was my next door neighbor in the dorms my freshman year along with his girlfriend loved eminem and even went to his concert circa 2000. They still remain good friends although we are geographically distant.

I met one of my present-day good friends back in high school, and if we weren’t always sat near each other because our last names are similar, I don’t know if we would be as good friends as we are today. this song reminds me of high school and a lot of the good times we had then.
